Dearest Kat,

This is just a short letter. Danny and I made it through the landings OK. It was a long day and the enemy gave us some fight. We lost some guys killed. One was a good mate. But we beat them in the end so may be it's worth it.

We got mail in yesterday. There's about four letters and a package from you. I ain't been able to read 'em like they deserve yet but I'm off sentry duty tonight at last so I can read them then and answer them tomorrow probably. I hope every thing I sent a few days ago gets to you OK.

I got to go back on duty now. It's still busy and our new company commander says we'll probably be busy for a while till things calm down here. I hope you and Mikey and every one are all right.

Love always,

Joe
