Mikey lad,

Hiya wee man! It's been a while since I wrote to you but your daddy and his mates have been busy chasing the enemy away from the town he was hiding in. They were bad and needing chasing away so we shouted a lot at them and made them leave. It's nice and quiet here now tho' and every one is resting till we have to go back to work chasing the enemy all the way back to where he lives. It's tough work!

Your mum says you've been good so I've talked to Santa and he says if you keep being good he can make sure you get an extra present for Christmas. He also says if you're extra good he can make sure your mum gets one too and she'd love that. Have you asked Mister Barnes to teach you how to make apple pies? You should so you can make your mum an apple pie so she can have two extra presents for Christmas.

Private Patrick is with me and he says to say hiya to you and that he's doing all right even tho' his feet are sore from all the running after the enemy we've been doing. He's a good soldier, your Private Patrick is. Your Uncle Danny says he's one of the best soldiers in our company. We're lucky to have him with us.

Your uncle James is home now and he'll be tired from all the time he's been away at sea. He might be grumpy because sailor-men like to be grumpy but he likes to color so may be if you shared a coloring book with him, he might be less grumpy. You might have to help him tho' but I know you like helping people.

Be good in school and look after your mum and Gran and Aunt Susan and Uncle James. I'll be home again before you know it, wee man.

Many hugs and love,
