Darling Joe,

This is just a short note because I've got to be at work at the Grove in an hour. James is home now having arrived yesterday and your ma has hardly stopped fussing over him since. He looks a terrible sight and his hands are still bandaged but he tells us he's all right. Doctor Healy will come by tomorrow to see him. Patrick is due home in a week, we've been told, and Peter will be coming on the 17th also. It is going to be a full house here!

I must tell you, as you are still the only who knows. A telegram from the Navy arrived this morning. Francis is alive but was seriously wounded in action and is on a hospital ship. Nothing more is known but I'm relieved he's been found alive. I must tell everyone soon. I can only hope it does not do your ma any harm to learn it.

Beth Harper is at the door so I have to end now. Harry Turner's told us that our letters and package have been sent on a stores ship so I dearly hope it all gets to you before Christmas. Take care.

All my love,

Kathleen
